While prepping for Baby F I have done a tone of research. Yes, way more than for Baby T. On the second way around I already knew what I needed to prep more for, what would be more challenging for me and what I wanted to improve. These are the reads I did and recommend if you are prepping for your bundle of joy to come:
What to Expect When You’re Expecting
This is a big book, but it’s my “bible” for the pregnancy period. I have bought mine during our first pregnancy which we unfortunately lost and have read it every pregnancy since. I really enjoy reading the weekly sections to aknowledge every strange symptom that I may be worrying about. “Wow, here it is, is normal!”. It’s also full of useful information. Like: all the information you can think about pregnancy. But don’t worry, you can easily read the parts that are relevant and skip the ones that aren’t yet.
Estamos Grávidos! E Agora?
This is a portuguese book I wish it was translated, but if you read portuguese, this is a must. It’s written by babies’ nurse Carmen Ferreira, which I can confirm it’s as lovely as her book. I was lucky to met her during Baby T pregnancy, as her patient and as an attender of her breastfeeding workshops. This books is filled with all the important things you need to know while prepping for birth and the first months of baby life. She has a second book focused on this second part, but if you are looking for a book with all the important information, this is the one.
Cherish the First Six Weeks
The book I have recommended more to every parent I encountered in the past 4 years is this one. It really saved us when baby T hit a stage of battling naps around the 2 / 3 months. I heard about it on Hello Baby podcast by Angela and Matt Lanter and have never read a book so quick. I’ve used the routine with baby T since then and have been working with baby F since his second week. It’s my go to for setting up a baby sleep routine. Plus is full of useful information for the first 4 months of baby life too.
I have also read Ser mãe com Esperança (another portuguese book) which is also a good one, especially if you are a fan of Catarina Gouveia and her calm parenting style. I loved reading more on how she and her husband decided to parent Esperança (translates into Faith). I was already very inspired by her to get out of the house daily for a walk with baby F as she did postpartum, but reading more on how she also had her struggles and how she dealt with it, alongside having useful information from experts in which she supported her choices, was super interesting.
Alongside these books, I’m also reading Os Bebés Também Querem Dormir, another portuguese one, on baby sleeping and a couple more that Catarina have suggested during her postpartum. But I won’t suggest them until I find them useful. For now, these are my Top 4.
Hope you have enjoyed this list and find it useful. I’m back from my blogging maternity leave now. Still struggling to get my blogposts schedule on time during baby F naps, but I’m here! ^^
See you next Monday for another brand new blogpost!
