Do you usually arrive to the end of the day without knowing what have you done with all those hours? Frustrated with a list of things you had all the intention to do, but didn’t. Another day went by and you ask yourself why can’t you be consistent with actively chasing your goals? This blogpost is for you.
I have tried a lot of ways to plan my days, chasing my dreams, planning my years, months and weeks, but when I found myself struggling last year and had to take a break from “go-go-go” mindset to look within on how to support myself and my mind, I found what I need: a simple and easy way to plan my days and have a routine that really works for me and this is how.
Dream Daily Routine
First, take some time and write down what an ideal daily routine would be for you. Dream. Go down into how much detail you want. What would you do? At what time would you wake up? Where would you spend your days? With who? Would you take some time for yourself in the mornings? Maybe have slower mornings? Or slower afternoons with a book? Dream it and write it down.
Selfcare
Then, with a Selfcare Planner, or by browsing selfcare ideas on Pinterest, make a list of all the selfcare pratices you would like to have time for yourself to do yearly, monthly, weekly and daily. Save this list somewhere where you would be able to check it frequently.
Create your ideal daily routine
Then, let’s get everything together. First, on a blank page of a notebook, Notion or your Notes app, whatever works best for you, write down at the top the day’s date and below 3 titles with space for 3 tasks under each. Like it follows:
Need to do:
- ____
- ____
- ____
Want to do:
- ____
- ____
- ____
Selfcare to do:
- ____
- ____
- ____
Now fill up “Need to do:” section with 3 most important things that need to be done today, this will be your productive to do list, the “get things done!”, the “needs to happen if it doesn’t I’m scr*wed!” list. Choose carefully the items on this list, you don’t want to burn your time today with things that are not really important, remember that!
Then let’s move to the fun part, the “Want to do:” section. This is the one we will look more forward to. We will fill it with those things we are really craving to do. Maybe it is reading that book you haven’t been able to put down. Maybe is finally start gardening in your lunch break. Or maybe is relaxing by the sofa while watching that Halloween movie you have been wanting to do for the whole week. Whatever excites you, write it down. But only 3! You can keep any other ideas you would like to in other list saved for upcoming days, but for today we will only be able to focus on 3.
Then the “Selfcare to do:” list. The most important one that most of as always push through because all of the rest seems to be more important. This was the reason I created this planning daily routine for myself. I needed to remind myself to have fun and, especially, take care of myself and my mind first. Write down here at least 1 selfcare task from your Daily Selfcare ideas, 1 from your Weekly and 1 from your Monthly. If you have already done all the Weekly and Monthly, you can always choose more dailies, choose whatever you know you need the most.
And there you have it. You have the start of living your dream life. Most likely it still isn’t exactly as the ideal daily life you wrote down above, but if you plan your days this way, I can garanthe you that you will be on your way to make it happen sooner than you were before. Keep focusing on that vision, on improving each day and focusing on what really matters to you. Your dream life is almost here. You are making it happen!
Hope you enjoyed this blogpost. If you’d like me to share more on routines, how I incorporate mine and use calendar-blocking and Notion to track them down, let me know. I would love to share it with you.
See you tomorrow for another #Magicaltober!
