Working from home can be stressful, especially if you struggle with maintaining boundaries. Maybe that is why working from home is a struggle for you. Let’s learn today how you can work from home, while keeping a balanced stress free work day.
Set a work schedule
Do you always struggle on logging off from work when there is still messages and requests coming in? Do you feel because you have the ability to, it’s easier to work after hours when working from home? The first thing to do is decide on what time you’re going to login and logout and keep that. If you’re on a typical 8 hours shift, keep it as if you were at the office: login only at that time and log off at your end time, no extra time, that time is essential for other things like rest or your family.
Take breaks
You can plan them, or do them after each meeting. I found this idea lately that I really enjoyed. Every meeting or task, take a break for yourself. Do something that makes you happy. It doesn’t have to be anything long or outside of your home, the important thing is to take care of your mind.

Have a morning routine
I have talked a lot about this, but not starting your day rolling out of bed directly to your first meeting of the day is incredibly helpful for your mind. I can’t do this since I have two kids that need to go to school before I sit at my laptop but even for me, as a mom, I need to have this time before the kids wake up. So, try it. Before logging in from your home office, take some time for yourself in the mornings. To drink your coffee, workout, have a good shower, wear something cute, whatever makes you happy on weekend mornings, at a bit to your work form home mornings too.
Have something exciting to look forward after work
Wether it is a group workout with your friends, a tv series you’re looking forward to binge-watch, a dinner at your favorite place or just a walk at your local park, make it something you look forward all day, outside of the simple log-off aspect of closing your laptop. You need something outside work. We all do. And this is your reminder to make it a priority.

Have a fun lunch time
Some days I take a longer lunch time and go for a nice lunch out, preferably in the sun. Always feels a re-chargeble moment for both of us, especially now with two kids. Having the possibility of having a nice lunch out with calm and silence just enjoying the good weather and each other company. Although that can’t happen everyday, you still can incorporate a fun lunch time in your day. Maybe you go out to pick up something yammi to lunch, or curl up with your book and read in your favorite reading spot. Whatever it is, make sure to take your lunch time and have fun!
Have a calm music playlist
I love Jazz playlists this time of year. As soon as November hits I change it to Christmas music. The rest of year I change between Coffee Lo-fi hits and Taylor Swift. Whatever brings you joy, use it. I started incorporating this more between my meetings. Even in my work days where I’m almost 100% of the time in meetings, playing a jazz playlist in between have helped me remember to relax and don’t let the stress of work burn me. Choose a playlist that do the same!
Have it be light
Have some vitamin D. Lunch time is a good time for it during fall and winter, but if the weather is still good, do it in the early mornings or after work. Vitamin D is a necessity and will for sure make you more upbeat and less stress. Try it. It makes wonders.
